Questions for Gestational Carriers to Ask Intended Parents

When you begin your gestational surrogacy journey, you may be a bit overwhelmed when the time comes to be matched with your intended parents. After all, you’ll be close with them for the next year or so, at least. You’ll certainly want to get to know them, but where do you start?

Not to worry! Adoption and Surrogacy Choices of Las Vegas is here to help you get the ball rolling. Here are seven questions for gestational carriers to ask intended parents! We’ll order the questions from basic “getting to know you” to more “in-depth.” You can use this as a guide if you’re at a loss as to how to open the dialogue.

1) What do you like to do?

This seems like a pretty common topic to begin a conversation with, but hey. It’s a starting point for a reason! It’s important that you don’t accidentally overwhelm your potential match with questions about the gestational surrogacy journey. Remember, they’re probably just as nervous as you are! You’ll have plenty of time to broach the topic of the journey as you get to know each other better.

2) What’s your family like?

This lets your potential intended parents know that you’re truly interested in their lives outside of the journey you’ll be taking together. That you aren’t interested only in their half of your potential partnership. This can also help ease any discomfort that there might be while the conversation is still progressing

3) Why are you turning to gestational surrogacy?

Now we’re getting to the whole reason that you’re being brought together. It’s what you want to know, and what they want to talk about. Their answer could very well be the deal maker or deal breaker that helps you make your decision. Be patient, though, as they answer. Some intended parents have a painful past when it comes to trying to conceive, and they may not be quite ready to open up about their reasonings behind turning to gestational surrogacy.

4) What excites you about the family-building process?

This is another great way to get a glimpse into how they’ll care for their child. While you may not be a part of their lives after the journey, knowing that the child will be going to good people can be extremely comforting as you make your decision.

5) What are your expectations for this relationship?

Now, this is arguably one of the most important questions you’ll ask and answer during the matching process. This is where you’ll either find that you’re meant to be the others’ match, or you’ll be on the lookout for other potential matches.

6) What are you looking for in a gestational carrier?

This is probably THE most important question to ask your potential match. Knowing what your potential match expects from you will tell you everything you need to know. Much like finding out their expectations, finding out what they expect from you will help you make your decision more than you realize.

7) Do you have any questions for us/me?

Much like with any conversation, you’ll want to open it up to them, if you haven’t already. As we’ve said before, they’ll likely be as nervous as you are, and have just as many questions to ask. Like any relationship, it is a two-way street.

Gestational Carriers

It’s easy to get overwhelmed or over excited as you begin this stage of the gestational surrogacy journey. Sometimes you can plan out what you want to ask or say ahead of time, but when you’re finally talking with them, you may be at a loss for what to say. On the other side of the coin, you may have a tendency to yammer. Remember not to hit them with a barrage of these questions. Take the time to get to know one another, and as always, be patient.

Were there any questions you felt didn’t need to be on this list? Any that you didn’t expect to see? Let us know in the comments!
