How are Intended Parents and Gestational Carriers Matched?

Now that you’ve  decided to become a gestational carrier and have met all of your state’s requirements, the next step is getting matched with intended parents. This is an amazing and life-changing experience for both parties. Being matched with intended parents can be both nerve-wracking and exciting. Naturally, you are feeling all sorts of emotions. These are the people you will be sharing the next nine months of your life, if not more. You begin to worry whether you and the intended parent will be compatible, if you’ll have chemistry, or if you will have contrasting ideas. Know that what you are feeling is perfectly normal. The process to find matching intended parents and gestational carriers are extensive. Your agency will want to make sure that they find intended parents that are best suited for you.

But exactly how are intended parents and gestational carriers matched? As a gestational carrier, you will go through a lengthy screening process. During this time, you will need to complete medical and psychological evaluations, as well as undergo a criminal background check. Many women believe that becoming a gestational carrier is one of the most rewarding experiences in life — and we couldn’t agree more! However, we want you to be mentally prepared. Keep in mind that this is a very big commitment, and it is one that will take up much of your time during and after the screening and matching process.

We at Adoption and Surrogacy Choices of Las Vegas will do everything in our power to ensure that you are matched with the perfect intended parents.

The Screening Process

One of the most vital steps in gestational surrogacy is the screening process. After filling out the initial application, the agency will review it carefully in order to get to know you better. Here, they will be reviewing different aspects of your life. Caseworkers verify your medical records, criminal background, and your psychological evaluation. Their goal is to know who you are, and what your interests and expectations are for this program.

Once you advance, the next step is an initial interview with your caseworker. They will discuss your application and clarify any questions you may have about the process. There they will also have an agreement that will outline what will be expected of both you and the potential intended parents.

During this process, you will also have to undergo some home study visits. The agency will want to ensure that your home life and overall environment is conducive to having a stress-free and healthy pregnancy.

You will be asked to create a profile and include a current photo of yourself. Keep in mind that your identity will remain anonymous until an official match has been made. You will also receive a profile on the potential intended parents. The profile is a way to help both you and the intended parents gain a better sense of who you will be sharing this experience with. It is a non-intrusive way for all of you to get to know each other without having to immediately commit.

After careful consideration, if the caseworker finds a(n) intended parent(s) they believe will be an ideal match for you, he or she will set up an interview. Here, you will be able to get to know the intended parents and ask them questions to help you make an informed decision. Remember to offer them the same courtesy to get to know you as well.

You’ll want to make sure that the intended parents you choose are the right fit for you. One of the most important aspects of this process is to maintain an open line of communication. You want to make sure that if at any point you have any doubts or questions about your potential match, you let your caseworker know.

Note to Gestational Carriers

We want to make sure that you are comfortable throughout this process. Getting paired with potential intended parents is a huge step. Our top priority is to help you find the ideal candidates. At the end of the day remember that it is within your power to decide whether or not you want to continue with the intended parents you were matched with.

Always trust your instincts and make sure that the potential match that you choose is the perfect one for you.

Stay positive and take care of yourself!
