Amber’s Story: Finding Relief, Choice, and Hope for Baby Jackson

Amber’s adoption journey began in a moment of fear and uncertainty. She had just given birth at a Reno hospital in August 2025, overwhelmed by worry that Child Protective Services might step in and place her baby into foster care. With no stable support system and not feeling ready to parent, Amber didn’t know where to turn—or what options truly existed.
A hospital social worker connected her with Adoption Choices of Nevada and its director, Lainie Burak. When Amber made the call from her hospital room, she expected the worst. Instead, she discovered something she never knew was possible: private adoption. Lainie explained that Amber could choose her baby’s adoptive parents, create her own adoption plan, and remain part of her son’s life through letters and photo updates.
For Amber, this changed everything.
She felt a wave of relief wash over her. The fear of losing her baby to the foster care system lifted, replaced by a sense of empowerment she hadn’t felt in months. She realized she had a voice, a choice, and the ability to shape her son’s future with intention and love.
Amber knew she wasn’t in a place to parent long-term. She lacked the resources and support she would need to raise a newborn, but she also couldn’t bear the thought of having no say in his future. Learning that she could choose a family for baby Jackson—and maintain contact—gave her peace at one of the most vulnerable moments of her life.
Throughout the process, Amber felt supported, respected, and never judged. Meeting with Lainie after the birth brought clarity and comfort. Every question was answered, every fear addressed, and every decision honored. Amber created an adoption plan that reflected her hopes for Jackson’s future and her desire to remain connected.
“I was so relieved to learn that my baby didn’t have to go to foster care and that I could decide who his parents would be. Adoption Choices made that happen for me.”
Today, Amber feels at peace knowing that Jackson is growing up in a loving, stable home—one she thoughtfully and lovingly chose for him. Her story reminds us that adoption is not about losing control; it is about reclaiming it. And sometimes, the most courageous choice is the one made out of pure love.
