4 Incredible Reasons Why You Should Choose LGBT Adoptive Parents as a Birth Mother

“Every child deserves a home and love. Period.”– Dave Thomas

There are many ways to make a home a loving one. There is no rule book for the perfect family, nor does the perfect family even exist. All that really matters is that the child is happy, healthy and loved. As our country continues to grow and diversify, we are seeing more and more unique families. We are breaking away from gender stereotypes, becoming more culturally aware and embracing heterogeneity. As we enter the month of June, also known as “Pride Month,” Adoption Choices of Las Vegas is honoring LGBT parents  who have just as much love and support to give as any other family.

It is no secret that LGBT couples and individuals have had their share of obstacles and barriers to overcome. Luckily, we are starting to see more acceptance in our society and include individuals from all walks of life. Not only is gay marriage now legal in all 50 states, but also LGBT adoption is now allowed in all states as well.

Why would you choose LGBT adoptive parents as a birth mother

1) To give your child a more diverse, unconventional upbringing

The word “unconventional” doesn’t always have to have a negative connotation. In this case, it can be really beneficial. Being raised by LGBT adoptive parents will give your child a front row seat to inclusion and acceptance. Growing up, he or she will learn firsthand about strength, resilience and other helpful qualities that he or she might not otherwise grasp as early on. Your child has less of a chance of taking the little things for granted – like being able to be him/herself.

Your child will also likely learn and be more aware of the importance of equality. They don’t have to be brought to the playground or taught at school the lessons of inclusivity and diversity – they get to live the example of it, and incorporate those values into everyday life within the home.

2) Your child is more likely to be open-minded

One of the simplest ways to combat negativity and narrowmindedness is education. Growing up in a family that exemplifies the courage to live their truth and embrace differences will likely raise children who are a product of those beliefs. If everyone had the same family blueprint, life might be pretty boring!

3) Your child may be more confident

Growing up in a household that differs from societal norms has a variety of benefits. Children raised in LGBT families are more likely to accept themselves and others. They may also learn that being different is not necessarily bad; rather, it can be a source of pride. What makes a family special is the love and care that its members embody – two elements that are often multiplied by LGBT families.

4) LGBT families may be more sensitive towards mental health

Having faced such obstacles, prejudice and discrimination, LGBT families may have a heightened awareness of mental health issues like depression or anxiety. This allows them to pick up on their children’s feelings easier and relate to them. If your children ever feel lost or alone, LGBT adoptive parents can be there for him or her and educate them on their own life experiences.
