Choosing Your Adoption Hospital Plan in Las Vegas
Choosing Your Adoption Hospital Plan in Las Vegas
Throughout your adoption journey, you have made many hard choices. From the type of adoption you want to selecting the right adoptive parents for your baby, every decision has been laid out for you, and you bravely and selflessly took all of these questions on. One of the last decisions you will have to make as a birth mother is making a birth plan and preparing for your hospital stay.
Especially in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, there are many aspects of your adoption hospital plan that can feel overwhelming at first. The good news is: you are totally in control. We are here to help you and have your hospital stay and birth plan be as smooth a process as possible.
Giving birth right now may seem like a scary feat. Given everything that 2020 has thrown our way, finding a way to safely deliver your baby has become more challenging than ever before. Luckily, there are different protocols and preparations that will allow you to deliver your baby in the safest way possible. Your health, along with that of your baby and their adoptive family, is the most important thing right now.
Selecting the right hospital for you will involve a bit of research. So, be sure to look up different hospitals in the Las Vegas area and compare the precautionary measures they are taking to ensure your health and safety during the delivery process. This is a great way to start your hospital plan. Depending on the hospital you choose, they will have different policies in regards to masks, testing, and social distancing protocols, but, in the end, every option wants the same thing: a healthy and safe delivery for your baby.
Involvement of the Adoptive Family
This is another aspect of your adoption hospital plan that you are in control of. You can decide how much interaction you would like to have with your chosen adoptive family throughout the delivery process. If you would like to have your delivery process be a moment that is shared only between yourself and your baby, then you have the power to choose not to have the adoptive family present during the birth. On the other hand, you can also choose for your chosen adoptive family to have more involvement in the birth process. The final decision is up to you.
You can also make the choice to give your baby a name outside of the name chosen by their adoptive family. In the long term, they will be named by their adoptive family, but you can still give them a name of your choosing that can be special just between the two of you.
Mementos from the Birth
It is also wise to consider whether or not you would like a keepsake from the birth of your child. Deciding beforehand whether or not you would like to keep yours or your baby’s hospital bracelet can take some of the pressure off, rather than making that choice in the moment. Whatever your choice may be, making one can help to give you a sense of control over the memory of your child’s birth.
Opting to keep something from your delivery process can help you to feel a connection with your baby even after they have gone home with their adoptive family. It can also help to give you a sense of closure and serve as a constant reminder of your unrelenting strength and bravery throughout your adoption journey.
Your Support System
Another choice to make is if you would like a member of your own family or support system present for the birth. While this may also depend on the hospital’s social distancing policies, it is important to decide for yourself if you would like a loved one with you during the birth process. Some birth mothers find it comforting to have a loved one with them throughout this process but, of course, the final decision is in your hands.
If you find yourself unsure, whether or not you would like a family member present for the birth can also be a choice you make after arriving at the hospital, as long as you check with your chosen facility and everything complies with COVID-19 restrictions.
